There’s something so special about photographing a love story in a place that already holds so much meaning—and Natalie and Nathan’s engagement session in Downtown Indianapolis was exactly that.
We started our evening at the breathtaking Indiana War Memorial, and truly, it could not have been a more perfect place to begin. The grand stone architecture, towering columns, and wide steps gave such an elegant, almost European feel to their portraits. Between the symmetry of the building and the soft glow of the evening light reflecting off the limestone, every corner felt like its own little moment. We took our time here—walking the steps, tucking into the archways, and capturing both the big, dramatic shots and the quiet, in-between moments that felt so true to them.

From there, we walked few blocks over to the iconic Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and the shift in energy was so fun. Surrounded by the circle of downtown, this spot brought a more lively, movement-filled feel to their session. The historic monument rising above us made for such a stunning focal point, while the city buzzed around them—cars passing, people walking, the kind of energy that makes downtown sessions feel so alive. We captured them crossing streets hand-in-hand, laughing on the sidewalks, and just soaking in the place that has been such a big part of Nathan’s story.

But the real magic came as we made our way to the stunning InterContinental Indianapolis by IHG. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, making the experience even more memorable. Nathan ordered a Ginger tonic and ordered Natalie’s favorite, Expresso martini. They were delicious!

And the rooftop? Absolutely breathtaking. We ended the night watching the sun dip below the skyline, casting the most beautiful glow over the city—one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever.
A word of advice– if you love this scene and want to capture engagement photos at a local hotel with a bar or rooftop bar, make sure to schedule you schedule your visit at least two weeks in advance. Most places are wonderful at accommodating your needs and desires, but they do not always honor spontaneous requests the night of! We were so grateful for the kind, thoughtful, and prompt service that the manager, bartenders, and servers provided to us this evening. It truly made the night so memorable!

What made this session even more meaningful was hearing Nathan share his history with these very streets. So many of the places we walked held memories for him—late nights heading home from work, meeting friends, just doing life in the city. And now, those same streets are part of their story together.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was hearing how Natalie and Nathan met. In true Natalie fashion, she made the first move, striking up a conversation at a bar—something that still makes me smile thinking about it. It’s hard to believe they didn’t meet sooner, especially with how many connections they shared over the years. From mutual friends, to cheerleading, to their shared love for fashion—their paths crossed in so many ways before that night.
And one of the sweetest full-circle moments? Natalie still has a photo saved on her phone from years ago—a group of friends doing a cheerleading stunt—and Nathan just happens to be in it. Long before they even knew what they would become to each other.
